slide frequently asked questions
When will I get my slides?
Orders take approximately 2 weeks to receive. On the rare occasion that a slide is out of stock, we will hold your order until it is complete. Expedited service is available for an additional charge.
Where is my invoice/bill?
If you are paying by purchase order, invoices are mailed separately from the slide shipment. Expect to receive your invoice approximately 1 week after the slides have been shipped. For credit card and check payments, a receipt will be mailed with your shipment.
Are the blue and green (Rosenthal 90s Vol. I and II) catalogs still being used?
Yes. The blue and green catalogs are the most recent printed catalogs of Davis holdings. These catalogs are still available for $5 to cover the cost of shipping. A supplement of slides is available upon request. The supplement is updated twice a year. Our most up-to-date catalog is online, with new slides and sale slides added on a regular basis.
May I return a slide if it is not the same view/artwork I had in mind?
Before placing an order, we suggest that you confirm that it is the slide you need. You may do so by checking the date, museum collection, accession number, or dimensions, which are all available online. If you are still not entirely positive it is a match, please contact the customer service department so that they may assist you.
How complete are your textbook slide sets?
Each textbook set contains as many exact matches to the text as exist in the Davis collection. If you wish to acquire additional slide details to supplement a textbook set, you may purchase them on an individual basis.
Why can’t I see thumbnails for all of your slides?
Davis Art Images is restricted to showing thumbnails for only those images approved by our image contributors. These digital images and / or slides are still available to order. Please register with the website to see 20th and 21st century thumbnails, making sure you include your school / institution in the registration process.
How can I tell if an image is available as a slide on your website?
Refer to the "Purchase Options" column on the right side of the screen on search results and sets pages to select available image formats. Click the radio button to choose your desired format (JPEG, TIFF, or slide), check the select box, and then click the "Add to Cart" or "Add to Wishlist" button. If you cannot select a format or it is grayed out, that image is not available in that format.
You can make sure you are looking for the correct format by browsing our Slide Sets or Digital Sets (on the left side of the screen) or by choosing Digital Only or Slide Only from our Advanced Search.
Why don’t you carry some of the most famous artworks?
Davis has worked to acquire many great works from American museums. While we carry many famous works held in the U.S., many famous works are held in foreign institutions. Many foreign institutions either sell their own slides or ask another vendor to provide slides for educators. It is for this reason that Davis has opted to distribute Scala Slides. Scala, an Italian slide manufacturer, is the largest color transparency archive in Europe. Scala slides have increased the Davis holdings to include many popular works. Scala works are available as slide booklets complete with printed information about each slide. Ple
If Davis has slides from a particular museum, yet doesn’t have a specific work from that collection, where can I obtain it?
Each museum has a Photograph or Slide Department. The department can provide educators with a photograph or slide for educational purposes.
May I digitize a Davis slide?
Please contact Davis Art Images at 800-533-2847 ext 252 or das@davisart.com for information about obtaining scanning rights.
Many Davis Art Images slides are now available digital directly through Davis. These images have been cleaned and color corrected to match the original as closely as possible. Search our entire archive online. Contact us for rates for images previously purchased as slides.
If images are not available to license through Davis, we can grant scanning permission for images owned by Davis or direct you to the rights holder. There is a scanning fee for Davis-owned photography.
