Double Self-Portrait
At the School of the Art Institute in Chicago Estes studied figure drawing and traditional academic painting, although Abstract Expressionism was then the major art style. Estes was interested in realism and figure painting, and studied the work of Dutch Baroque artists, as well as American realists Edward Hopper, Andrew Wyeth, and Thomas Eakins.
