Creative Minds—Out of School
is designed specifically for out of school educators
and programs, grades K–5!
This art-based curriculum
by one of the country’s leading experts in hands-on discovery and art explorations for young learners, Cathy Weisman Topal, introduces young people to the joy and wonder of viewing and creating art.
Each lesson capitalizes on children’s natural curiosity and readiness to create.
The Big Book
includes brilliant fine art images
and real-world photos,
along with clear process illustrations
to demonstrate to young learners how to create their original artworks.
The Educator’s Edition
includes step-by-step support for all educators, whether they are artists or not! Each easy-to-follow lesson includes key vocabulary in English and Spanish,
as well as literature connections
and connections to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math!
Illustrations and classroom photos throughout the guide demonstrate how to organize and set up materials.
And the materials for each activity use everyday art supplies
as well as natural and found objects
for limited budgets.
This unique, innovative program was developed as a partnership between the Massachusetts Cultural Council, the Massachusetts Afterschool Partnership, and Davis Publications.
