Maureen Mackey is an artist, author, and educator who has taught in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Germany, and California. She currently lives in Tucson, Arizona, where she has been teaching ceramics for more than 30 years, working at her home studio, and writing.
In addition to ceramics, Mackey paints and creates monoprints inspired by the effects of the Sonoran Desert. She earned an MFA in Studio Art-Ceramics and Art History, as well as an MA in Art Education, from the University of Arizona. She has also studied at the Rhode Island School of Design, California College of Arts and Crafts, and the University of New Mexico.
She created the Ceramic Innovations timeline and guide (Davis Publications, 1996) after presenting her Global Art Timeline as an invited speaker for the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA). Her experience in art education led to additional publications, including three editions of Experience Clay, the Davis Publications Studio Series ceramics program.
